Background

Paul Harris (BSc)Hons CBuildE MCABE MIFireE is an Oxfordshire based Chartered Building Engineer specialising in Fire Safety Engineering. He started his career in building control in 1988, specialised in fire safety engineering in 2001 and started Harris Technical and Professional Services (Harris TPS) in 2016.

Paul Harris has been working with many of his clients for between 10 and 20 years, providing expertise in fire safety and fire safety engineering. These long relationships are largely attributed to understanding the client’s requirements and making an effort to understand the project and the related constraints, which ultimately define a successful solution.

Services

Heritage Buildings

Highly experienced in working with buildings of heritage value. Paul understands the balance between the need to improve fire safety and fire protection, with their impact on the fabric and aesthetic of the building.

Bespoke Solutions

Fire design standards refer to a series of numbers and classifications but this does not provide an accurate reflection of safety, only compliance with the standards. Paul works to understand each individual project and its related hazards and constraints to ultimately lead to a successful solution.

Specialist Consultancy

High level strategic design, outline specification of fire safety systems, fire safety engineering analysis, value engineering, option evaluation and problem solving. Providing efficient solutions and cost certainty.

New Builds

Extensive expertise in advising on the fire safety of new buildings and extensions including: commercial, industrial, assembly, healthcare and residential developments.

Daventry Cinema

A four-screen cinema complex, with restaurants, public square and splash fountains. Paul worked with Willmott Dixon to ensure the fire safety of the complex before hand-over to the cinema and restaurants for their internal final fit out.

Cambridge Mosque

A purpose built Mosque with room for 1,000 worshipers in the 8m tall prayer hall containing a 8.1m square grid of columns. Paul advised on the fire safety strategy for this project ensuring the safety of the occupants, whilst maximising flexibility of use and reducing the need to compromise this impressive design.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) named Cambridge Mosque Trust as the winner of the RIBA East Award 2021, RIBA East Project Architect of the Year 2021 (sponsored by Taylor Maxwell), RIBA East Client of the Year 2021, RIBA East Building of the Year 2021 and RIBA Client of the Year 2021.
